John’s Statement of Candidacy

John Stephens Candidate for Costa Mesa City CouncilThe OC Registrar of Voters approved my papers so I’m officially on the ballot. We’re in it to win it!!! My statement of candidacy is listed below.  This is the official version you will find on your Sample Ballot in a few weeks.

NAME: John Stephens
AGE: 53
OCCUPATION:  Attorney/Business Owner

My wife Amy and I have lived in Costa Mesa for 27 years.  We’ve raised four children here, and have been active in our church and schools.  I’ve coached Little League, softball, and volunteered at Costa Mesa High School.

Right now, Costa Mesa is struggling.  Crime is up, homelessness has increased, rehab homes burden our neighborhoods, police and fire departments are dangerously understaffed, and high-density housing taxes our resources and snarls traffic.   The City Council majority obeys developers, but disrespects residents.

I love Costa Mesa, will return balanced leadership to the City Council, and will work tirelessly for Costa Mesans.

I will be a thoughtful voice for our residents and businesses, and will stand up for Costa Mesa citizens – not out-of-town developers.  I will keep Fairview Park natural and improve our parks.

I earned a Business Administration degree from Cal Poly and a law degree from UC Davis, have practiced business law for 27 years, and own a law firm.  I have the education and background to serve Costa Mesa effectively.

Join Endorsers:  Costa Mesa Police Association; Costa Mesa Firefighters; Newport-Mesa Federation of Teachers; Costa Mesans For Responsible Government; Fairview Park Preservation Alliance; Councilmember Katrina Foley; Former Police Chiefs Roger Neth, Dave Snowden and Steve Staveley; Former Fire Chief Tom Arnold; Fair Board Member Ashleigh Aitken; longtime residents Jim Erickson, Nadia Flores, Cathy Jo Liebel and Adam Walburger.

I ask for your vote.
